At the risk of sounding like Justin Timberlake, PMC is bringing wire back. Unlike classic vinyls or flared jeans, wire may not have the aesthetic appeal to bring it into vogue. But its power and reliability are not to be overlooked—making plain old Wi-Fi pale in comparison when it comes to connecting massive commercial setups, or even elaborate home networks. That’s where PoE comes in.
PoE, or power over ethernet, is a way of bringing wireless connectivity to wired infrastructures— especially for professional installers and businesses. This technology runs a single cable to your customers’ networking equipment instead of having to connect power and ethernet separately. This can provide more flexibility for where eero access points can be mounted, or simply allow one to achieve cleaner cable runs.
Eero PoE 6
Eero PoE 6 is eero’s first dual-band Wifi 6 access point. Because it utilizes Power over Ethernet cables, eero PoE 6 doesn’t need a separate power supply and can “go almost anywhere Ethernet cable can be pulled,” according to eero—making it both ceiling and wall-mountable. Adaptable and reliable, this impressive device provides connections for more than 100 devices and covers up to 2000 square feet of space. It also supports 160 MHz channels and wireless speeds up to 1.5 Gbps.
Eero PoE Gateway
If you thought PoE 6 was capable of big things, wait till you meet Gateway. With two 10-gigabit Ethernet ports and eight 2.5 gigabit ethernet ports that support PoE, the PoE Gateway can deliver up to 100W of power and internet speeds up to 10Gbps. To put things in perspective, this device is capable of powering multiple eero PoE 6 access points—providing maximum coverage for just about any-sized network.
Eero is also offering software services to let you, the installer, and your commercial clients remotely manage/troubleshoot their Eero networks. You’ll get “Eero for Pro Installers” with any PoE 6 or PoE Gateway purchase, while “Eero for Business” will give business owners the power to set up things like multiple SSIDs and captive portals if they don’t have an IT team.
